First Day with Google Glass

My First Day with Google Glass

My heart raced when I saw the email yesterday saying I was one of the lucky "ones" to be able to purchase the Google Glass. Keyword purchase, and a hefty price at that. I shook with delight and instantly started day dreaming of the possibilities. Right away I called the Google Glass rep to find out about what he could tell me about these futuristic wearables. He was just as excited as I was (probably because he was going to get a big chunk of commission due to my addition to gadgets). We chatted for 45 minutes and could have talked endlessly about the possibilities. However, my mind was made long before I received the email.

I have never been so happy about a purchase, at least that I can remember. The rep asked me what I might do with these glasses but I really didn't now except for take pictures and make educational videos about computer technology. To me, it didn't matter, what mattered to me was being a pioneer to the future. He gave me a link to the developers page just in case an idea came to mind for an app. Luckily, you can build apps through JavaScript or at least that is what I read.

I could barely sleep. I had awaken to a fogged head due to the lack of sleep. All day I waited for the big brown truck to delivery my small rectangular package. Even with the down pouring rain, I slipped on my husbands oversized sandals and shuffled swiftly across the kitchen floor to run out to the yard to greet the UPS man. I couldn't believe it only took a day to get my Glass. Once I was inside, I shrieked with delight and couldn't get the package open fast enough.

I always love a good box. Funny as it may be, cool boxes are my thing. I have my old boxes from my other gadgets lined up on top of my bookshelf. This box is sleek and full of mystery. I opened it up to find my glass and its accessories. 1 frame, 1 dark shield, an earpiece, a charger, some extra nose pieces, and a really cool microfiber bag that has a drawstring for easy transportation. It was all there!

I quickly turned them on and was greeted with a screen on how to get started and indeed I followed. I was amazed how easy it was to take navigate through the menu. Of course the first thing I had to do is take a picture of my sleeping cat on my desk and share it on Google+. I voice commanded it to do it. I felt like a master of the universe. Not sure why, I could easily do the same with my phone or could I. The benefit is to having the freedom and control to do things without much hand interaction. Eventually, I stumbled upon a way to take the picture by a wink. Now that is cool. I just controlled the device with my eye! The next best thing next to mind control.

So what I have learned to do so far in approximately a couple of hours give or take (in between my breaks at work), take pictures with my mind (oops I mean eye), send pictures to Facebook, Google+, but not in a text yet (haven't got that far), do a google search by voice command, make a call on my Note 3 through voice control, read text messages from my phone on the glass, set up my wireless connection, and that is about it for day 1. So far I am still happy with my win/purchase. We will see where tomorrow takes me.
